Keynote speakers
For this year’s conference, we are very happy to welcome two major scholars of Southeast Asia for two keynote addresses putting their rich research experience in perspective:  Bénédicte Brac de la Perrière (National Center of Scientific Research) and Duncan McCargo (Nordic Institute of Asian Studies / University of Copenhagen). Read more.

EuroSEAS Masterclass 2022

EuroSEAS Masterclass 2022

In connection with the upcoming EuroSEAS conference in Paris-Aubervilliers from 28 June – 2 July 2022, EuroSEAS organizes, in cooperation with the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), a masterclass for a limited number of PhD students from European universities who work on Southeast Asia in the field of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The masterclass will take place on 28 June 2022.

Aim

The aim of this PhD workshop is to bring together young academics from a broad range of disciplines focusing on a diverse range of topics concerning Southeast Asia. The PhD students present their research proposal or a key chapter of their thesis and co-comment on another PhD candidates’ project.

A panel of carefully selected senior Southeast Asia scholars covering a broad range of specializations will provide constructive feedback on the writings.

Application and deadline

Students interested in this masterclass should send an application consisting of a:
-cover letter
-1 page CV
-project/research description of max 1000 words
-letter of recommendation from the supervisor

Financial support

For those who will be physically present in Paris, EuroSEAS will offer modest financial support (max. 500 Euro and a reduced conference fee), but the home universities of the participants are expected to cover part of the costs as well.

The European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) will hold its 12th conference at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), on the new Campus Condorcet, Paris-Aubervilliers, France, from 28 June to 1 July 2022.

EuroSEAS Book Prize 2022Deadline submissions: 15 April 2022

The European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) will award two book prizes at the 12th EuroSEAS Conference in Paris-Aubervilliers, 28 June-1 July 2022. 
1. The EuroSEAS Humanities Book Prize 
The EuroSEAS Humanities Book Prize for the best academic book on Southeast Asia published in the humanities – including archaeology, art history, history, literature, performing arts and religious studies.

2. The EuroSEAS Social Science Book Prize
The EuroSEAS Social Science Book Prize for the best academic book on Southeast Asia published in the social sciences – including anthropology, economics, law, politics and international relations, and sociology

Shortlist
A shortlist of six books in each category will be announced on the EuroSEAS website in June 2022. Announcement of the winners will be during the conference in 2022. The winners will receive the book prize certificate and € 750.

Eligibility
• Only books written in English carrying a 2020 or 2021 date will be eligible.
• The same book will not be considered for both prizes – please submit to the most applicable category. If in doubt about which category applies, please send an email to: euroseas@kitlv.nl.
• The prize committees will reserve the right to cross-refer as they find appropriate. Only single-authored or co-authored research monographs are eligible: no edited volumes or textbooks.
•  Translations of literary works are not eligible.
• There are no residency or citizenship requirements for authors, and no location requirements for publishers.
• Nominations should be made by the publishers of the book. There is no limit to the number of books an individual publisher may nominate.
• The decisions of the judges shall be final.

Submissions
• Please send a hard copy of the books directly to the members of the jury (see below).
• Please inform the EuroSEAS secretariat about the nominated books: euroseas@kitlv.nl. In this way the secretariat will be able to check if the jury members have received all the books.
• Please send an electronic copy to the EuroSEAS secretariat: euroseas@kitlv.nl. Please note that besides an electronic copy, a hard copy should still be sent directly to the jury members.

The European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (EuroSEAS) will hold its 12th conference at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), on the new Campus Condorcet, Paris-Aubervilliers, France, from 28 June to 1 July 2022.

Call for papers
As an international and multi-disciplinary scholarly organisation, EuroSEAS invites scholars and PhD students from all academic disciplines with an interest in Southeast Asia to present a paper in one of the selected panels at the EuroSEAS conference in Paris. The selection committee has accepted around 100 panels, laboratories and roundtables this year, with a great variety of topics and formats. EuroSEAS wishes to promote diversity in every form. Panel conveners are urged to pay attention to diversity when selecting papers for their laboratories, panels or roundtables.

Paper presenters
If you want to participate in a panel, please send your paper abstract directly to the panel conveners and not to the EuroSEAS secretariat before 15 March 2022. EuroSEAS will not accept paper proposals that are not part of a panel!

Panel conveners have to inform the EuroSEAS secretariat (euroseas@kitlv.nl) about the paper proposals they have accepted before 1 April 2022.
